What is Pediatric Dentistry?
Pediatric dentistry focuses on caring for children’s oral health from infancy through the teenage years. Treatment procedures include preventing and treating diseases of the mouth, teeth, and gums. It also includes early intervention during the growth of teeth to avoid extensive problems in the future.
Our dental practice in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, has the most exciting kid-friendly atmosphere. Our fantastic team works hard to create a welcoming and compassionate vibe where patients of all ages can have fun and feel at ease. We have many years of combined experience in pediatric dentistry and working with children. The pediatric dental services we provide are:
- BPA Free Tooth-Colored Fillings
- Infant Dentistry
- Interceptive Orthodontics
- Nitrous Oxide for Children
- Sedation for Children
- Space Maintainer
Your young child’s first visit to the pediatric dentist should be an informative and enjoyable experience that keeps them wanting to return. Children are not naturally fearful of the family dentist, but they can adopt feelings from others. We want both of you and your children to feel comfortable, and at ease from the moment you arrive at our dental practice.
What are BPA Free Tooth-Colored Fillings?
BPA-free tooth-colored fillings are the same as regular composite white fillings. The only difference is that they do not include the controversial BPA.
What is infant dentistry?
Dentistry is not only for those who have a complete set of teeth! The ADA recommends that children receive dental care when their first tooth erupts or by their first birthday. In infant dentistry, the dentist assesses the baby’s mouth to ensure everything is healthy and growing well. The pediatric dentist can also give parents helpful advice for taking care of teeth and gums in their babies.
What is Interceptive Orthodontics?
Interceptive orthodontic treatment (two-phase) is when children begin orthodontics early in age. The goal is to direct a child’s baby teeth development. Early orthodontics can fix or prevent specific problems with the size, position, or spacing of the teeth and jaws so that orthodontic treatment is easier down the road. Follow this link.
What is Nitrous Oxide for Children?
Better known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide can help reduce a child’s pain and anxiety during routine dental treatments. The nitrous oxide is given through a small nose piece so that your child can be awake but calm throughout their procedure.
What is Sedation for Children?
Sedation in dentistry is relatively mild and doesn’t put the patient completely to sleep. If you have a child fearful about their next dental appointment, sedation can calm the nerves and make them comfortable. We can safely administer different types of sedative options in our dental office.
What is a Space Maintainer?
Dental space maintainers are small specialized dental devices that leave open spaces for permanent teeth to grow into after baby teeth have been lost prematurely. Leaving empty gaps can lead to major orthodontic problems down the road. Click here to learn more.
When should my child first see a dentist?
It is recommended by The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry for children to visit the dentist before their first birthday. Newly erupted teeth need proper dental care and good oral health habits right from the beginning.
Tooth decay can happen as soon as a child’s first tooth grows. Cavities in baby teeth increase the risk of corrosion in permanent teeth. If the decay is severe, it can have long-lasting effects on a child’s overall health and be quite expensive to fix.
What happens at my child’s first dentist appointment?
During your child’s first visit, we review your child’s medical and dental history, answer your questions, and address any concerns you might have.
This first exam allows us to evaluate growth and development, the position of the teeth, and the health of the oral tissues, while also checking for tooth decay. If your child is old enough to tolerate it, a gentle polishing of the teeth to remove plaque and stains, as well as a fluoride treatment, is usually recommended.
